2009: The Raven’s Empire Big Band
A six-week collaboration with the Brighton and Hove Concert Band led to a one-off performance in Brighton St George’s Church, with a fifty-strong brass and woodwind section and the electronic wizardry of former Rave DJ Grant Newman.
It was here that some of the songs for The Raven’s Empire LP began to take form. Scoring for tubas, trombones, trumpet etc was something I still have nightmares about and couldn’t have done without the help of producer Andrew Phillips who, truth be told, did most of the hard work. There’s a 16-track recording of the performance somewhere that will, eventually, see the light of day…
