2008: The Absence of Birds EP
Four tracks that were originally planned for Winter Creatures but never got finished in time. I hate giving up on songs and will, to the point of obsession go back again and again until I can make them work.
The Ghost of Oddfellow started life as a simple piano song, got swamped in orchestration, was abandoned, left for dead, stripped back again to piano and vocals, swamped in different orchestration and finally it seemed to work. It’s a similar story for Your Old Skin and Bones, written, incidentally, as a reminder that there’s light at the end of the tunnel after heartbreak. It was a hard year.
